in this fourth newsletter of the Film Festival Research Network this year, we’d like to ask once more for your help to update the FFRN bibliography. We can announce newly added panels on film festival issues at SCMS and would like to remind you about two CfPs.<\/p>\n

1) Update of the Film Festival Research bibliography<\/strong><\/p>\n The year is almost over, and Marijke and I promised to update the Film Festival Research bibliography by the end of the year. 2) SCMS Los Angeles, March 17-21, 2010<\/strong><\/p>\n In the last newsletter we asked for paper proposals to enter panels to the upcoming SCMS conference in Los Angeles, March 17-21, 2010. Workshop ID: 159 Panel ID: 1275 Panel ID: 1308 Along with the panels and papers focussing on film festivals that had been accepted to the Tokyo Conference, there will be a strong presence of festival research at SCMS. I hope many of us get to finally meet in person and that we’ll have great discussions.<\/p>\n 3) Reminder CfP NECS 2010 [14 December 2009]<\/strong><\/p>\n CFP pre-constituted panel(s) on film festivals In preparation for the fourth annual NECS conference in Istanbul next year we would like to invite scholars working on film festivals (especially members of the Film Festival Research Network & Film Festival Research Work Group) to submit paper proposals for a pre-constituted panel or panels. 4) Reminder CfP Grenoble [31 January 2010]<\/strong><\/p>\n Call for Papers Following on the highly successful conferences held in New York in 2007, Copenhagen 2008, and London 2009, we invite submissions to the fourth conference on the worldwide film industries. The conference will be hosted by the Creative Industries Research Group at Grenoble Ecole de Management, on June 3-5, 2010. Important deadlines: We look forward to submissions from participants in the prior conferences. We also strongly encourage you to pass this invitation to other scholars who may be interested. \nWe have already compiled an update that will appear as “Thematic Bibliography on Film Festival Research \u2013 Update: 2009” in the Film Festival Yearbook 2: Film Festivals and Imagined Communities in February 2010.
\nThe online version of the bibliography that appeared as part of Medienwissenschaft: Berichte und Papiere December 2008, will also be updated. The URL will stay the same, so you can keep your bookmarks at: http:\/\/www1.uni-hamburg.de\/Medien\/berichte\/arbeiten\/0091_08.html
\nIn order to make this bibliography as complete as possible, we would like to ask for your help. Please let us know about any additions to the bibliography. The second edition will also incorporate slight adjustments or differentiations to some of the categories. If you have suggestions regarding the structure, please let us know. Since the update should go online before the Christmas holidays, please get back to us with references and suggestions before December 10, 2009.<\/p>\n

\nNECS 2010 \u2013 Istanbul Conference (www.necs-initiative.org)

\nWhile the conference theme focuses on \u201ccapitals, cities and urbanity\u201d, this is not intended to be rigid. The film festival panel(s) will therefore be open to papers on all aspects of research relating to film festivals.
\nPlease contact Marijke de Valck (m.devalck@uva.nl ) before DECEMBER 14, 2009 to register your interest and indicate the possible area of your paper. We will then work at integrating these interests to form a panel or panels. For the eventual panel(s), all presenters are asked to provide a title, an abstract of max. 150 words, 3-5 keywords, 3-5 key bibliographical references, technical requirements, the name of the presenter and institutional affiliation. We therefore ask anyone participating in the panel(s) to have their completed proposals with Marijke by JANUARY 24, 2010 to allow time for preparation of the overall panel(s) description(s) and submission before the general submissions deadline on January 31, 2010.
\nThe conference language is English. Conference attendance is free, but NECS membership is required to participate in the conference (register with NECS at the NECS website, www.necs-initiative.org or upon arrival in Istanbul; for the terms of NECS membership, please see the website). Participants will have to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses. Detailed information on NECS and the Istanbul Conference will be posted on www.necs-initiative.org .<\/p>\n
\nThe 4th Annual Conference on \u2018Cultural Production in a Global Context: The Worldwide Film Industries\u2019
\nGrenoble Ecole de Management, Grenoble, France

\nWe invite papers from researchers working on all aspects of film development, production, distribution, and exhibition. As in the prior conferences, we also invite researchers who are working on the impact of new technologies, the emergence of new business models, and the impact of trade and regulation on the global film industry.
\nFollowing the concluding discussions at the London conference, we particularly welcome papers which study film firms and organizations (instead of single films or projects) as well as papers that study film industries outside the U.S. and Europe. Other areas we would like to emphasize for the Grenoble conference include film festivals and markets as field-configuring events, the interrelation of film and TV industries, models and evolutions of public policy, and, last but not least, the study of professional trajectories in the film industries.
\nWe hope for a broad range of theoretical, methodological, and geographic diversity in the contributions. Abstracts should indicate the central research question taken up in the paper, methodological and theoretical points of departure, conclusions and results \u2013 all delivered in no more than 1000 words. Abstracts should be submitted by January 31, 2010 to marko.pitesa@grenoble-em.com.
\nGrenoble is an attractive alpine city in south-east France, ringed by mountain peaks, gateway to the French Alps, to Dr\u00f4me and Provence. It is a vibrant European center for research and technological innovation. The nearest international airport is Lyon St-Exup\u00e9ry (regular shuttle buses). Paris is at 2h50 by TGV high speed train.<\/p>\n
